Matt leads the portfolios for entrepreneurship, impact investing and technology within the innovationXchange at Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT). The innovationXchange was established to catalyse and support innovation across the Australian aid program. Prior to his work at DFAT, Matt developed a social enterprise, Enable Community, which partnered with Vodafone and Opportunity International to provide refurbished phones to micro-entrepreneurs in the Philippines who used the phones to sell e-top ups. He then took the lessons from Enable Community to the mobile industry association (GSMA), developing the business case framework for mobile operators to refocus on women in emerging markets. This work at the GSMA led to the mobile identity programme. Most recently he worked at Facebook with internet.org and the emerging market growth team. Matt lives with his wife Louise and 3 young boys in Canberra, Australia.
